FAQ

1. Are the various L&L properties the same on all policies?

No. Certain policies are standardized across the properties. These are policies such as deposits, discounts, bad weather days, cancellations, releases, half-day pricing and non-photographer guests. Beyond that, the pricing and policies vary from property to property. To see a list of common policies, please click L&L Common Policies link.

2. How can I find out about the policies and pricing on each property?

There are links on the contact page for each ranch. Most have a separate website which will answer the questions. Feel free to call or email the properties. For general L&L questions, there is a contact email address provided on that page also

3. Do all L&L properties require a guide?

No. Some require a guide and some don’t. Consult the individual property information.

4. Do I pay L&L or the individual properties?

You pay each property separately.

5. What about lodging and meals?

Some properties have provisions for lodging and meals and some don’t. Each ranch will provide you information as to the available options for lodging and meals.

6. May I bring a lunch and eat my noon meal at the ranch?

All of the ranches provide some shaded area for resting and all allow you to stay the entire day if you wish.

7. What should I expect weather-wise?

Texas is highly variable, except in the summer when it is always hot. Both the South Texas properties and the Hill Country properties hold true to this. It can be 100+ in February and we can have frosts though the end of March. You should be prepared for either. By mid-April you can count on 80-100 degree weather. Showers can happen, although this is usually semi-arid country.

8. What should I bring?

Drinks (including WATER), sunscreen, insect repellent, snacks, photo supplies, batteries, etc. If you have a special chair or camo netting setup, bring it. If you want a cushion for your chair, bring it. Bring a hat if you plan to spend much time shooting away from the blinds.

9. What is the closest airport?

McAllen International is usually closest, but Harlingen is also acceptable.

10. Do I need a 4WD rental vehicle?

No, although extra ground clearance, such as with an SUV or mini-van is helpful.

11. What is the cheapest way to shoot on L&L properties?

Coming as part of a workshop is the cheapest way. Most of the websites list workshops which will be visiting in the coming year. Coming in a group of 4 or more photographers or staying 4 or more days also reduces cost.
