Dos Venadas
Sitting quietly fogotten and securely hidden by larger properties for the last century, this 336 acres of native brush is representative of Starr County as it was back then. There are very few non-native plants or animals on the property, which is rare in South Texas today. Professional photographers Steve Bentsen and Laura Elaine Moore have developed Dos Venadas exclusively for nature photography, drawing on many years of photography and habitat experience in South Texas and utilizing advice from their many photographer friends. Located in Starr County, it is the westmost Lens & Land ranch, most conveniently accessed from Rio Grande City.

This ranch offers six permanent sunken blinds over water features for 2 and 4 photographers. Portable blinds are also available to use around the ranch as various opportunties arise. A specially designed pond for odonate/amphibian photography is available, and the whole ranch is a giant butterfly garden with blooming plants of every variety. Photography is not limited to blinds. Photographers are free to walk the trails and drive the roads to discover their own subjects. They may also rearrange props at blinds to create distinctive settings. A mid-day picnic area with electricity, running water and restroom facilities is present.

Being the western-most property in the Lens and Land group, Dos Venadas has most of the species of wildlife found in Hidalgo County, plus all of the western valley specialties. Western Species Include: Scaled Quail, Black-tailed Gnatcatchers, Audubon's Orioles, Chihuahuan Ravens, Reticulate Collared Lizards, Texas Banded Geckos, Desert Kingsnakes, White-tailed deer, Javelina, Bobcats, Coyote, Desert Cottontails, Mexican Ground Squirrels, Badgers, and Armadillos.
