El Tecolote Ranch
This historic South Texas ranch is home to a large herd of White-tailed Deer that come to feed regularly near carefully placed photo blinds. Other mammals enjoy the ranch as well. One photographer spotted a mother Bobcat with her two babies. South Texas specialty birds are prevalent, too. Situated near a flowing stream, which is a magnet for birds of all kinds, are birding trails, a three-acre lake, and a 50-foot tower that affords magnificent views. With a variety of excellent Texas backgrounds such as ponds, dry wash areas, scrub thickets and meadows, this ranch provides the perfect setting for the perfect shot.

El Tecolote ranch, the name of which means "the owl" in Spanish, has four species of owls. Ferruginous Pygmy Owls and Barn Owls are easy to find in the breeding season. Sit at one of our carefully located photography blinds with small water features, and you can readily spot Green Jay, Painted Bunting, Eastern Bluebird, American Goldfinch, Golden-fronted Woodpecker, Ladder-backed Woodpecker, Blue Grosbeak, Scarlet Tanager, all the dove species, Bobwhite Quail, Northern Cardinal, Pyrrhuloxia, Hooded Oriole, and Tufted Titmouse. Possible mammals include Arabian Oryx, Armadillos, Badgers, Bobcats, Coyote, Javelina, and Jaguarundi.

Although there are no guarantees where nature is concerned, this ranch comes very close with its White-tailed Deer. Professionally designed blinds with a drip pond and wetland area with food plots have been set up to get you close.
