The city of Edinburg, Texas has a variety of hotels, restaurants, stores, and areas of interest. Just outside of McAllen where you might wish to fly in to, it’s also a relatively convenient location to access all but one of the Lens & Land ranches. If visiting Dos Venadas in Starr County, consider staying in Rio Grande City for an easy 30 minute drive to the property.

Airports
There is an airport in McAllen, just outside of Edinburg, and in Harlingen, on South Padre Island.

Edinburg / McAllen Area
Accommodations: Some of the major hotels offer a discounted rate for photographers visiting Lens & Land properties; be sure to ask when making your reservation as the savings can be significant.

Restaurants: There are plenty of places to eat in the Edinburg / McAllen area. One favorite among visting nature photographers is La Mexicana Restaurant, 4300 Colonel Rowe Blvd., McAllen (956-994-1597)

Areas of interest: World Birding Center, Bentsen-Rio Grande State Park, South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center

Rio Grande City
Accommodations: The hotel options are a bit more limited in Rio Grande City; there’s a Best Western, which offers a discount to visitors of Lens & Land. There is also a new Holiday Inn.

Restaurants: In addition to numerous fast-food restaurants, there is a Mexican restaurant in Rio Grande City that you may wish to try: Caros Restaurant, 205 N. Garcia St., Rio Grande City (956-487-2255)

Areas of interest:Rio Grande City, Roma, and Falcon Dam areas feature many historic buildings from the Spanish mission days.
